Urbex photography is often done in illegal and difficult to access places. As much fun as this photographic discipline is, it is not very attractive for many people to climb through windows and have to look over their shoulder all the time to see if the police are there yet

However, our visit here is completely legal and arrangements have been made with the official manager.

This attractive location is not in the south for once, but in the province of Groningen.

During the workshop we will discuss correct lighting. That is not always easy in this space. There are enormous light contrasts. Windows or other openings where (a lot of) outside light comes through in combination with the dark corridors. A great opportunity to learn to work with HDR (high dynamic range) photography.

Also the good and functional use of the aperture (read depth of field) is discussed. By applying this thoughtfully, you can isolate things well from their background or foreground.
And last but certainly not least, we also look at the composition. In the end, that's what it's all about.

The location is particularly photogenic and challenging to photograph. This abandoned factory has been empty for about 35 years now and nature is slowly but surely gaining the upper hand. Trees and shrubs are growing in and on the building, sometimes right through the walls. The images I made and that can be seen on my website were taken in February when there was not much green on the vegetation. That will undoubtedly be different in May and at that time the mix of buildings and vegetation will only be more interesting.

To get an impression of what is possible, you can take a look at my website

You can also see via these images whether the accessibility of the building is okay for you. This old factory is relatively easy to reach and accessible.

In short, everything is safe to do as long as you pay attention to where you are walking and standing. It will be clear that you do need to be reasonably mobile.

The small group ensures that everyone gets plenty of attention to help them take better photos. Suitable for all levels and for all types of (digital) cameras.
