The Lightroom catalog is a database that stores information about your photos. This information is divided into several parts:
- A reference to where the photo is located on the system
- Instructions on how you want the photo to be processed
- Metadata, such as ratings and keywords, that you apply to photos to help you find or organize them
It appears time and again that it is not entirely clear to many people how an LR database (catalog) can be set up in such a way that you can actually take full advantage of all the functionality that this (very extensive) program offers.
And that's such a shame!
Lightroom was once developed by Adobe as a kind of digital slide sorter. Photos are read, you can move them, view them conveniently and edit them a little. At least that was the case in the early years. In the meantime it has become a very mature program with which you can, besides managing photos very conveniently, also edit a lot.
Most people do use those editing functions but only make very limited use of all the nice features the catalog offers them.
And that is still the basis of Lightroom. Therefore, optimal use of LR still depends on the proper setup and use of the catalog.
This one-day workshop will help you set up that basic catalog. It will give you an understanding of the how and what and why of that catalog and prevent you from losing photos (again) in the future.
'Lost' is something I hear a lot and only rarely are the photos actually gone but something has simply gone wrong in the catalogue.
In short, if you recognize yourself in any of the above, this may be a workshop for you.
Due to the (very) small group, there is plenty of attention for everyone.
